In the Korean drama It’s Okay to not be Okay different characters suffer from emotional difficulties due to reasons such as painful childhood experiences, loss of a loved one, placing excessively high demand on self and others etc. When we are growing up, a lot of us are encouraged to do better and achieve more and more in different aspects such as study, sports, etc.
However, when we go to the extreme pursuing perfectionism, placing excessively high standards on ourselves with overly critical self-evaluation, it might affect our mental health. Some studies report that perfectionism is positively associated with depression, anxiety and suicidal ideation. Some people also tend to impose unrealistic standards on others. It might affect social relationship and increase conflicts with others. Mistakes and failures help us grow and learn. No one on earth doesn’t make mistakes. Let’s be kind to ourselves and others as we are all PERFECTLY IMPERFECT.
